In case you're interested, I've posted some initial thoughts about the Nokia N82 (obtained through the Nokia Blogger Relations program) over at cecily.info. The shot below was taken with the N82's 5 megapixel camera.
I'm working on a new series that documents some of Vancouver's worst architecture (as defined by yours truly). I wrote a longer post about it which you can read if you're so inclined.
These are the first few photos in the series; the set will continue to grow until I'm tired of shooting ugly buildings.
I have a question for the audience. As many of you know, I published a book through blurb, but unfortunately, blurb doesn't have a system set up for international sellers. To get around that, I was thinking of ordering a...Continue Reading »

I've been ruminating on Thomas Hawk's Race and Photography post, and the same question keeps popping into my head time and time again:
If Hawk hasn't done anything wrong, why did he feel the need to apologize?
Have we really fallen so far as a society that we feel it necessary to make amends for the possibility -- no matter how remote -- that we might have offended someone?
I'm not going to weigh in on whether I think TH is racist. It really isn't for me to say because I don't know the man. I do know that the very idea that he felt he needed to justify his artistic vision to someone who "can't see for looking" has furrowed my brow all day long.
Are we really so fragile as a people that not seeing black faces represented in someone's personal photo stream is a reason to level a criticism against someone? When should we be concerned about parity and fairness and at what point does making a concerted effort to address issues of diversity devolve into simple bean counting?
Of course, the whole bean counting issue reminds me of the wave of recent discussions about White Male Conference Panelist Syndrome, which kind of makes my head hurt because if you were to ask me whether said panelists are trying hard enough to make sure that gender/ethnic parity is achieved when they're planning conferences, you'd probably hear a resounding "Hell to the no!'
I think I'd draw the dividing line between personal intent and professional recognition.

The feature I find most lacking in the D50 is the inability to shoot black and white directly into the camera. I've seen quite a few conversion tutorials, but these tips at Digital Photography School have produced the best results yet.
How many of you use Zooomr in addition to Flickr? I was a little excited about Zooomr in the beginning, but lately I've stopped uploading photos to both locations. What I'd like is a widget that is integrated with both services and allows you to upload photos to both sites at once.
But getting back to the original subject, are you a Zooomr? If you are, let me know so I can add you to my neighborhood. So far I've only got Thomas Hawk in my neighborhood, and as much as I admire his photography, I don't know him from a hole in the ground.
